iPhone Canada Rogers Flyer

Are they are aren’t they selling iPhones for Christmas? I’m asking about Rogers, of course, the only GSM operator for the Canadian market and the exclusive distributor of the iPhone there.

We have reported that December 7 could be the date, but we’ve also heard more reliable rumors that the logical release date for the iPhone is early next year… You know, after Canadians have refreshed their wallets with new post-Christmas paychecks. Now, someone has taken a photograph of a flyer from Rogers (is this flyer supposed to be in circulation, we don’t don’t and probably not) indicating a January 18, 2008 release date for the iPhone. So what’s it going to be? Christmas present or an early Valentines gift for yourself.

the iPhone is just another way for Rip-off Rogers to send you to the poor-house. Their current data rates are so high that you’ll find yourself with bills of hundreds or thousands of dollars per month (look up some of the horror stories from US customers that came up to Canada with their brand-new phones when they were released).

You’d be well advised to turn off the feature that automatically checks for email, as each time it goes looking, it uses up 10kb or more. If you set the interval to, oh, 60 seconds, you’ll be using up 600 kb/h. That will cost you $18/h at Rogers’ rate of $30/MB.

If you use the Safari browser and view, say, 20 graphics-rich web pages per day, that will lead you to consume 600 MB per month – and your monthly bill will be $1800 !!!

The only way anyone should consider one of these phones is if Rogers changes its current data rates. Otherwise, by comparison, prison sex would be a lot more pleasant than paying Rogers.

I didn’t get any such flyer. I don’t believe this flyer is real or in circulation yet. It might be someone who works for rogers that might have taken that picture. I know someone who works for rogers and I keep asking them about the iphone and still they have no information for me. December 7 is right around the corner. So I believe that more likely the phone will arrive sometime early next year. The best way to beat rogers when the phone comes out is to just not pay there data rates. WiFi people there is enough of it. I have wireless internet at home, my office, my friends and families houses and my favorite coffee house. So trash the idea of paying ridiculous data rates, the device operates much better through Wifi!
