Everyone knows it’s not enough to have a kick-ass mobile service like Ovi, the gigantic service Nokia is offering for music, maps and gaming, the service has to reach end users and its the wireless providers who has the final say on this. Recently Nokia’s prayers were answered by Vodafone, which has agreed to offer Nokia phones with the Ovi service.
“This is a major breakthrough in mobile entertainment,” according to Mike Grant, Head of Broadband and Media division at Analysys Consulting. “While small operators have promoted OEM services, the majors have always done their own thing and kept the device manufacturers at arm’s length. This is the first indication that this attitude is changing and that major operators realise they need to engage the device community to deliver the end-to-end experiences that users want.”
Analysys has earlier predicted that Ovi will be more important for mobile entertainment than the Apple or Google services.
