So there is no GPhone - at least, there is no ONE GPhone but thousands. Google has officially announced the Android platform, an open-source mobile platform that provide an open system in which companies can tailor fit mobile usage for their customers. Google will release an early version on November 12 for developers.

Characteristics of Android:

- Android will be more open than any software on mobile yet. It will allow developers access to the full functionality of the device and customize it.
- There is no core applications and no software hierarchy.
- Android provides developers with a library of applications and tools to make application development easier.
