Samsung Soars to Record Quarter

Samsung salesCurrent number two handset maker Samsung has achieved a record quarter in Q3 selling 42.6 million units. The best sellers were in the Ultra line of phones, the thinnest line of phones in the market. So far, Samsung has sold 115 million handsets this year, still not as impressive as the number of Nokias sold in China alone but Samsung is getting there. Samsung expects they will sell 157 million units this year.

It’s a mixed year for Samsung. Operating profits slid in the DRAM and NAND flash division, while LCD TV sales were brisk. My observation is that Samsung has diversified its portfolio rather effectively, they can free their cellphone division to risk in more innovation. Compare that to Moto.
