Two bottom-rung cellphone manufacturers may be merging soon. Kyocera of Japan is in the final stages of buying out Sanyo’s cellphone division for $435 million. Japanese manufacturers need to trim down as they face tough oponents from Finland and the U.S.
Kyocera is the tenth largest cellphone manufacturer in the world. Meanwhile, Sanyo’s cellphone outfit is likely to turn a profit for this quarter.
