Besides launching five new phones, Nokia has officially fully embraced the World Wide Web by announcing Ovi, their Internet service. Ovi means doorway in Finnish and it offers three types of content services to the consumers. First is the Nokia Online Music, which will directly compete with iTunes. Nokia Maps will also fall under Ovi, and, lastly, Nokia’s recently announced gaming business, N-Gage.
Nokia anticipates the growth of mobile content and even hazards to call handsets “the fourth screen: after TV, the PC and the Movies.
One hurdle that Nokia has to face is the Wireless provider. Most wireless providers have their own content offering to mobile users. They will not be too keen in accepting phones that house competitive platforms for downloading mobile content.
