“Can You See Me Now?”: Video Share from AT&T Wireless

On June 19, AT&T Wireless unveiled a new service that allows customers to send each other live video from their cell phones. The customers will be able to send each other live video while talking on their phones. AT&T publicist says their new service, called “Video Share,” will allow live interaction between two customers who will be able to see each other on video and talk at the same time. The feature will be available this summer in more than 50 U.S. markets.

During a normal wireless call, Video Share customers can hit a button on special phones and add a live video stream. The person on the other end of the line can then hit a button and let the first person see what he/she is seeing. To use Video Share, both sender and receiver must have phones with Video Share capability and be in the area with AT&T’s high-speed 3G network.

So far, AT&T is only offering the service on one phone, LG CU500v, but in the nearest future the feature will be supported by Samsung A717 and Samsung Sync. Video Share runs $4.99 a month for 25 minutes of usage, $9.99 for 60 minutes, or 35 cents per minute, regardless of whether the customer is already subscribed to a data plan.
