If you are one of those people who is seriously considering buying an iPhone but is turned off by AT&T’s compulsory two-year contract may heave a sigh of relief. This is just rumor for now but Boy Genius managed to get hold of an AT&T internal screen shot showing three types of plans available for the iPhone. We already know of the post-paid AT&T iPhone plan, which binds iPhone users to AT&T for two years in exchange for the $499 4GB or the $599 5GB iPhone. What interests us is the last plan from the last plan from the top… yes, the one that says IPHONE PREPAID TRKG 3APL (Weight: 100).
Just rumor? Definitely. But it’s too sensible for Apple to pass up. Most likely, the post-paid plan will cost consumers more than a pre-paid contract with AT&T, and most likely you will have to use a different number from what you are currently using. But a pre-paid plan for the iPhone will effectively bring down one of the more significant barriers that keep people who find the iPhone appealing but nevertheless are reluctant to jump networks from considering the iPhone.

A prepaid iPhone. Yikes, that will be a fair mint.
