It’s the simplest of things, adding an alert to your cellphone that tells you it is time to unplug the charger. It just proves that it doesn’t take much effort at all for electronics and computer manufacturers to help save energy. For Nokia to really make a difference they have to add this to all their phones, especially to the millions of phones they are shipping to China every year (entry below). I’d also love to have this feature as long you can turn it on and off (I sometimes charge my Nokia N70 while I’m taking a nap).
The alert will initially be found in three of Nokia’s latest low-end phones. The 1200, 1208 and 1650 (picture) will start off a larger goal for Nokia. Nokia has been implementing energy saving features in its gadgets. The effort has also been awarded. Last year, Nokia’s chargers were given the Energy Star by the Environmental Protection Agency of the U.S. or EPA for their efficiency. By 2010, Nokia expects they will have have reduced the power consumption of a charger plugged to a socket by 50%.
This is a great idea for Nokia since the cellphone manufacturer will be helping save power through a cellphone accessory, not through the cellphone itself. Energy saving through the internal makeup of the handset would’ve likely resulted in the removal of many of the unnecessary add-ons of a late-model cell phone, which might very well include Bluetooth. You can always just plug in your cellie or use 3.5mm jack instead of stereo Bluetooth.
