iPhone teens marketWhen Steve Jobs said he’s expecting his iPhone to get ten per cent of the cell phone market, he was being on the conservative side. The figures came from Piper Jaffray’s which was conducting its 13th bi-annual teen survey among 500 random teenagers in 11 high schools around the U.S.

Although brand awareness for the iPhone among these teens may not be as high – 84% – as Apple would’ve hoped, a whopping quarter of the kids surveyed said that they’d spend $500 on the iPhone when it comes in June.

“We believe that the teen demographic is a critical component of long-term growth in both markets,” said Piper Jaffray senior analyst Gene Munster. “And Apple is clearly leading the category.”

Apple’s iPod increased its penetration in the demographic surveyed or about 82% compared to last year’s 79%.
