DataWind promises that their latest handheld, the PocketSurfer 2 can download an entire web page in 7-9 seconds. This is unheard of in a mobile device. Montreal-based DataWind Net Access introduced the world fastest mobile at the 3GSM in Barcelona, and it’s easy to imagine a MacWorld-like crowd during the presentation.
The reported specs includes a QWERTY keyboard, backlight for the keys which wasn’t available in the first Pocket Surfer and a full integrated radio modem, which doesn’t explain much why the device is so fast. DataWind however have challenged the press and critics present at the unveiling to whip out their fastest mobiles for a comparison test. If any one beats the Pocket Surfer 2 they are given a working model of the device. Needless to say no one was able to walk away with his own Pocket Surfer 2.
