Telus Porn Scorn Spreads Across Canada

KathleenThis may be construed as inappropriate for a blog entry on Valentine’s Day but here goes. It seems that word from a Catholic Archbishop can still create minor tremors in the Canadian press.

Telus remains adamant about offering adult content to mobile subscribers. Telus’s defence remains unchanged – “The reality is the material is already out there and customers would be accessing it with or without us,” says Johansson, the spokesman for Telus.

The RC Church gets personal with Telus: Says John MacDonald, director of pastoral care for the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton.”They’re just making a bad situation worse and giving the public more opportunities to get themselves into emotional and psychological trouble.”

Joe Ferran, spokesman for CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association), cites the U.S. as an example of wireless networks being morally responsible entities: “To my knowledge, certainly no one is offering any content that is considered adult content [in the U.S.]”

So far, reactions to the Bishop’s statement has reach as far as Australia. My own opinion will be based on comments made by either Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien or David Letterman. Currently I’m counting on Jon Stewart of the Daily Show to break the news to the rest of the world.
