If you think “The Blair Witch Project” was dirt cheap, imagine one of the finalists at the Pocket Film Festival making millions as a Hollywood blockbuster. Forget maxing out your student credit card to make a film. For the price of a cameraphone with video capabilities, you too can star, write and direct your very own indie film.
This is the second year of the festival held in Paris. One hundred short or “pocket films” were screened, each one shot through cellphones. You can view all of the films on the website, which can be viewed in English using Google.
Each of the films have a real feature film quality to them with a plot, theme and real actors. In other words, this is not YouTube.
What does the mobile telephone equipped with a camera bring to the cinema, art, the company today? Which new questions raises this tool? Which old debates it starts again? How to imagine it in the future? Increasingly present in the middle of our companies, in our daily newspapers, the mobile telephone 3G does not finish any any more making us reflect.
