It’s official. Rogers will be launching the much anticipated Samsung Galaxy S Captivate on October 25th. In fact, they’ve received the first batch of units and have begun shipping it out to retail stores already.

The delayed release of the Captivate was apparently due to the worldwide shortage in Super AMOLED display supply. Here’s a brief statement from Samsung Electronic Canada’s Vice President Paul Brennan explaining the situation:

Due to a worldwide shortage in Super AMOLED technology screens, we regret that Samsung was unable to deliver the Galaxy S Captivate to Rogers in time for the scheduled launch. The continued shortage has resulted in repeated delays. We know this is a widely anticipated device and apologize to Rogers customers. We’re pleased to say that we have begun shipping the device to Rogers, though shipments will be limited over the next few weeks. Samsung is committed to supporting Rogers with further notices, on the Rogers blog RedBoard and via Samsung Mobile Facebook and Twitter pages.

The Samsung Galaxy S Captivate has been available for pre-order since last month, and now, they’ve extended it up until Sunday, October 24th. Pre-order promotional price is $149.99 bundled with select 3-yr voice and data plans. It’ll be readily available to others the following day for $179.99 (3-yr contract voice and data plan).

Just to refresh your memory, the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate runs on Android 2.1 and sports a 4-inch 480x800 resolution Super AMOLED touchscreen, 5-megapixel AF camera, 720p HD video recording, WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, 16GB of internal memory, and is powered by a 1GHz processor.
