Networks in Asia Ready for Nokia N92

N92Nokia will be shipping units of the N92 to Indonesia and Vietnam where DVB-H networks will soon provide broadcasts to N92 users (source). Industry experts at Informa expects 50 million DVB-H devices will be sold by 2010. Mobile TV is seen as the next step in revenue generation for handsets with voice revenues in decline.

Vietnam Multimedia Corporation will be offering 8 TV channels, including a TV-on-demand service plus 4 radio channels. Italy was the first country to open a DVB-H network, but it uses a different technology to address piracy issues (content protection is the big issue for DVB-H providers. Finland’s Digita will begin offering DVB-H broadcast on December 1 in Helsinki and environs.

DVB-H is the preferred technology in Europe but DMB and MediaFlo come in as rivals.
