Sprint Raises Text Message Fee, Customers Free From Contracts

If you are a Sprint subscriber, you have until Oct. 31 to get out of your contract for free. Sprint raised its text message charge to $.15 on Oct. 1. This gave unsatisfied Sprint wireless subscribers a month to leave without paying the cancellation fee. Michele Kane of CBS is quite sure about this.

Rival carriers charge only $.10, so why did Sprint hike up its texting charge? According to Sprint Nextel spokewoman, Roni Singleton, the rising cost of the service made the hike necessary. So far there are no reports of a massive exodus of wireless subscribers from Sprint. But I’ll keep you posted.

Is Spring part of Telus? I noticed that Telus raised it’s text price to 15.00 and so wondered if those plans could be exited by oct 31 as well.

    thanks

    Hey Karen.

Sprint isn’t part of Telus or vice versa but some Canadian carriers have followed in the footsteps of US carriers and upped their SMS rates plus began charging for incoming messages.
