Fring, one of the first iPhone apps to provide video call functionality on Apple’s dear mobile phone, has just been updated so that it can now take advantage of the front-facing camera found on the new iPhone 4. The best part is, unlike FaceTime which is currently limited to iPhone 4-to-iPhone 4 video calls and a WiFi connection only, this latest version of Fring allows you to enjoy 2-way video calling over 3G to any of your Fring buddies regardless of what phone they’re using. Of course, the video call performance over 3G is still subject to your carriers 3G coverage and quality, but at least it’s now possible.
Here’s a demo of how this new feature works on the iPhone 4 as posted on the Fring blog:
The new Fring iPhone app also comes bundled with a new Social Stream for all your tweets, Facebook updates, and what have you, an improved address book, and adds multitasking support. If you’re already rocking iOS 4, or better yet, have an iPhone 4 and want to give this a go, just click here to be redirected accordingly to the iTunes App Store to download Fring 3.2.0.5.
