In response to personal attacks made by a few very angry readers, who didn’t realize that I was quoting articles written by other news sources, I have the following comments:
My report was originally based on articles by The Register, Engadget, Yahoo News, and an article posted on AP, which has been updated only 14 hours ago.
The update is as follows:
Taken from ABCNews.Com
Dec. 27, 2005 — A woman who police thought purposely swallowed a cell phone during an argument with her boyfriend last week likely was assaulted, police said.
The bizarre incident that sent a 24-year-old woman to the hospital is now being investigated as an assault, and police have a suspect, Sgt. Allen Kintz of the Blue Springs, Mo., police said.
“It appears she didn’t voluntarily swallow this phone,” Kintz said. “It’s not quite the way it was first portrayed.”
Early Friday morning, police responded to a call from a man who said his girlfriend was having trouble breathing. Police arrived to find a woman with a cell phone lodged in her throat.
Police were initially told the boyfriend wanted the phone and the woman swallowed it so he couldn’t get it. Police have not made an arrest and would not say whether the boyfriend was suspected of assaulting the woman.
Charges were only filed at 4:00 on 12/27, the day after I commented on the issue.
The suspect, Marlon Gill is not in custody.

He is 5 feet 9 inches and 180 pounds. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-8477.
Details about the assault are here.
As for my journalistic style: thank you for your comments. They will be regarded with as much esteem as one would regard fashion advice from a Wal-mart greeter.
