I’ll admit it. I’m not a huge fan of the square design used in the Nokia Twist and Motorola Flipout, but my opinion doesn’t really matter especially to a huge company like Nokia who’s just officially announced yet another square-inspired phone, the X5-01, over in Singapore.

Nokia X5-01

This square-shaped slider packs a 2.36-inch 256K color display, 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, HSDPA connectivity, a four-row QWERTY keypad, 3.5mm jack, 200Mb internal memory, microSD card slot (ships with 2GB microSD card), and runs on the S60 3rd edition platform with social networking integration. Available in a variety of colors (pink, blue, and lime greaan), this new QWERTY handset is targeted at the younger segment of the market and will is priced at €160 (that’s roughly $195 in the greenback) sans tax and subsidies. It’s confirmed for Indonesia in Q3 though it's still not clear where else this baby will become available. Incidentally, Nokia's first TD-SCDMA Nokia handset in China is also named the X5, but make no mistake, this is a completely different phone from that one.

In related news, a purported teaser video of the Nokia N9, the first handset from the Finnish company to run on the new MeeGo platform being developed by them and Intel, has just been leaked on the internet.

As you’ll probably notice in the video above, the Nokia N9 is basically like the QWERTY-equipped twin of the Nokia N8. Drawing inspiration from the Nokia N97, the N9's display also tilts at an angle when sliding it open to use the QWERTY keypad. Apart from running MeeGo, details about its specs are still pretty scarce, but we are hoping that, just like the N8, it too will come equipped with a capacitive touchscreen and probably a 12-megapixel or better autofocus camera.

How about you guys? What's your wishlist of features for this upcoming Nokia N9 MeeGo smartphone?
