rss yahoo screen shotWhat is RSS and why should you care?

If you are really lazy, or really busy and want to keep track of the news, you have probably found yourself feeling a little annoyed at having to search the internet for all your news updates.

RSS is your new buddy.

RSS, which stands for Rich Site Summary (sometimes called Real Simple Syndication) searches the internet and serves you your headlines, all shiny and new, in bold face right there in one list on your computer screen. Its so beautiful, it might bring tears to your eyes.

How can you use RSS?
First, you need a news aggregator. Try Bloglines or Newsgator.

Then, the next time you are browsing your favorite news source, look for a little button like one of these that readRSS XML Feed Burner etc. Click those buttons, and you will be given a link to paste into your aggregator so it can subscribe to the site feed. Your news site needs to publish a feed in order for you to receive one. Sometimes you can even search for a news feed from within your news aggregator.

Once you’ve subscribed to all your desired feeds, your aggregator will pull your headlines and bring them to you along with summaries, if you want them.

Now, Yahoo will text message your feeds to your mobile!
