Cone of Silence

Cell CellRemember the Get Smart sitcom of the 1970’s? Maxwell, the bumbling super spy, would always ask The Chief to do any secretive talk within The Cone of Silence. A large transparent bubble would lower from the ceiling, they’d get crushed under it, or entangled, and inevitably would end up shouting, “What?! I can’t hear you!” I nostalgically digress. Steelcase has just released its version of The Cone of Silence, but they call it the ‘Cell Cell’.

What’s pictured right is a large felt cone suspended from the ceiling. Cell phone callers duck under the felt rim and carry out their call in quiet privacy. There are no plans for production of this prototype which I’m thankful for. I would forsee a spike in teenage antics such as hitting a friend in the bits, pulling someone’s shorts down, and other foolery that can be carried out when my buddies can’t see me coming.

i loved maxwell smart. 99 was fashizzle. this cone thing is dumb. i’m sure people would smoke in it and put gum on the walls. i suggest pulling a wollen toque over your head for the same result.

yep. it needs semi-transparent walls. i don’t like confined spaces.
