The Mobile World Congress has officially begun, and one of the first phones to get showcased at the annual event is the Samsung S8500 Wave. This is Samsung’s first Bada-powered phone, and fortunately, its other specs are quite a treat as well.

The Samsung Wave packs a 3.3-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 5-megapixel AF camera, 720p video recording capabilities, WiFi (b/g/n), GPS, FM radio, 2GB/8GB internal memory options, and is also one of the first phones to come with Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity. If the UI of the Bada OS looks familiar, that’s because Samsung has loaded it TouchWiz 3.0 making it easier for their loyal followers to transition to the new OS. They’re likewise debuting their new Social Hub app in the Wave which integrates various email, IM, and social networking services for easy viewing.
As far as its Super AMOLED touchscreen is concerned, they’re saying that it’s much brighter and crisper than the ones out now, and is less reflective making it more convenient to view. It also makes use of the company’s mDNIe (mobile Digital natural Image engine) technology which can be found in their current LCD and LED TV products running under the hood. Needless to say, the Wave will be very ideal for media playback especially since it also supports DivX, Xvid, and WMV file formats and features virtual 5.1 surround sound as well.
The Samsung Wave is scheduled to begin shipping in April though pricing is still yet to be known. You can read the full announcement here.
