It took Google awhile, but they’re finally releasing some nice extensions for the Firefox web browser. Check out Send to Phone. This allows you to send web content via SMS. For example, you could could SMS yourself a phone number, an address, or directions that you find on the Web.
To use it you simply select some text and click the cell phone icon that gets installed as part of the extension. When a new window opens, enter the number you wish to send the message to, select the appropriate carrier and click “Send.”
The only downside seems to be the fact that you have to select which carrier you want to send to. That’s ok if you are sending to yourself, but how many people know what service provider their friends use.
Note: Currently this will only work with the major US service providers.
