Over the past 3 years there are about 100 million cellphones taken out of service in the U.S. annually and I don’t see cellphone use decreasing any time soon.

From FoxNews.com:

‘There are more than 153 million cell phone users in the U.S., and because phones have a relatively short life averaging 18 months to two years there are many retired phones not being put to good use, said Travis Larson, spokesman for the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association.”

Try using the Charitable Recycling Foundation or CollectiveGood which is another resource for recycling old cellphones.
