Nokia has just announced that they’ll be lifting the charges for their Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation service, and beginning today, will offer it free for everyone to enjoy.

That’s right folks! Nokia’s starting off the year right by matching Google’s free turn-by-turn navigation service by allowing everyone (and that means everyone across the globe) who owns a compatible GPS-enabled Nokia phone to enjoy Ovi Maps to its full potential. The list of supported phones include the Nokia E55, E52, E72, 6730 Classic, 6710 Navigator, 5800 XpressMusic, 5230, N97 Mini, and the upcoming Nokia X6. Noticeably missing is the Nokia N97, but a quick call by Engadget to Michael Halbherr, Nokia VP for Social Location, confirms that the new Ovi Maps will soon be available on the touchscreen-equipped QWERTY flagship phone.
