Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.3GHz, Dual-Core 1.5GHz processor in the works

Qualcomm 1GHz Snapdragon processorThe Qualcomm 1GHz Snapdragon processor is slowly becoming a mainstream product with more and more devices now supporting it. So, what’s next in line? Well, that’s exactly what we’ve got for you guys today. Luis Pineda, SVP of product management for Qualcomm, has confirmed that they will be coming out with two new Snapdragon processor this year, a 1.3GHz and dual-core 1.5GHz processor.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8X50A is a 45nm version of the current Snapdragon chip but is clocked a little faster at 1.3GHz. It’s scheduled to ship to manufacturers for sampling by the end of the month with the first set mobile phones running on this new Snapdragon processor expected to be released by year’s end. Next is what really got us excited. It’s there new dual-core Snapdragon 8X78 chip that boasts of twin 1.5GHz Scorpion cores. This one will be out before 2010 comes to a close and will mostly likely become available on phones early next year. Apart from its new record-breaking speeds, these new set of processors are also capable of supporting 1080p HD resolutions.

We’ve already seen how the Qualcomm 1GHz Snapdragon processor has worked to the advantage of devices such as the Nexus One, HTC HD2, and Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, and we’re definitely psyched at what these new breed of processors will be bringing to the table in the not-so-distant future.
