Qualcomm Chats Up “Push-to-Talk”

QUALCOMM unveiled on Thursday point-to-point voice-over-IP (VoIP) technology that it said wireless operators can offer as part of their third-generation wireless service.

The technology, dubbed QChat, would enable users to initiate a VoIP “call” by pressing a button on the handset. If the person to whom they wish to speak is available, no matter where that person is in the world, the call can proceed. In addition, multi-person conversations also are possible with the technology.
