Nokia says it is launching mPosition for WCDMA, an upgrade of its mPosition for GSM product, which lets operators introduce new value-added third-generation (3G) services based on the subscriber’s location. With the mPosition software, operators can offer their customers personal services, such as contextual messages, friend-finders, and traffic reports. The software processes information about a subscriber’s location and provides this information to service providers, while protecting the subscriber’s privacy, the company says. The software will also support emergency services.
