If you’re in the habit of driving with just one hand on the steering wheel and the other one fiddling around with your mobile phone, we’d like to remind you that Ontario will implement its ban on the use of handheld devices while driving beginning on Monday, October 26th.
There’s no question that driving while texting or calling has been a cause for accidents, but it’s just only recently that legislature has been passed to address this issue. Drivers caught violating the law will be fined up to $500. However, there is a work around for this if you wish to continue to use your mobile phone while driving. Provided that you use your mobile phone in tandem with a hands-free kit or Bluetooth headset and keep both your hands solely devoted to driving, you should be safe from fines.
Of course, this does very little to help those who text and drive, but hey, if it’s really an important message, I doubt that people will relay it via SMS instead of calling.
