Bell’s been churning out one good bit of news after another. First, it was the announcement that their new HSPA network is good to go beginning next month. Second was the big reveal that they will indeed offer up both the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G S to their devoted subscribers. So it saddens us to hear this latest bit of news that goes against this trend.

According to Mobile Ninjas, Bell began charging clients who are no longer on-contract $5 per month on October 9th. Yup, that’s right. There’s now a monthly off-contract fee for Atlantic-based subscribers, meaning those residing in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland. This may not have any effect on the rest of Canada, but let’s face it, there’s really nothing holding them back from implementing this on a national level. Signing up on any contract will spare clients from this no-contract fee, but then again, you’ll be tied down for at least another year.
We understand that Bell has shareholders and needs to turn a profit, but this new off-contract monthly fee is a little bit too harsh in my opinion. How about you guys? Do you think they’re justified to charge more to those who don’t want to be tied into a contract?
