Windows Mobile 7 was supposed to be launched this year, but was postponed to 2010 postponed in favor of Windows Mobile 6.5, and from the looks of it, it might take a while before we see any Windows Mobile 7-enabled devices hit the scene.

Stephen Chapman of Microsoft Kitchen uncovered documents outlining the RTM (release to manufacturing) of Microsoft’s next mobile OS iteration as Spring 2010 making it more unlikely that any Windows Mobile 7 devices will be unveiled early next year. The roll-out of Windows Mobile 7-powered devices was original scheduled for April 2010, but as we had previously reported, it has been moved to the second half of 2010. Taking into account the time manufacturers will need to customize, tweak, and test the new OS on their respective hardware, we’ll probably see the first batch Windows Mobile 7 phones get launched around the third quarter of next year .
It was also discovered that Microsoft is preparing a Windows Office Mobile 7 suite as well. Details about it are pretty scarce at the moment and all we have to work on are the mock-up images featured in the PowerPoint slide above. Those clearly state the Mobile 7 suite is meant for use on the Windows Mobile 7 platform. Rest assured, we’ll be reporting more on this once additional information is made available.
Thanks Sean for the heads up.
