Phone Arena

At its "Premiere" event in London, Samsung unveiled the ATIV Tab 3, which is touted as the world's thinnest Windows 8 tablet at only 8.2 mm. The device has powerful innards despite its slim frame and super light (550 gram) body: Intel Atom Z2760 (Clover Trail) chip with 2GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and 3G and 4G connectivity. The 10.1-inch display touts a 1366 x 768 (155 ppi) resolution, which is decent but not as sharp as the Retina display on the iPad. The ATIV Tab 3 starts at $599 without a keyboard.

What Else You Need To Know

  • The ATIV Tab 3 runs the full-featured Windows 8 software thus will allow users to run legacy desktop apps.
  • At the Premiere 2013 event, Samsung also unveiled a convertible Windows 8 laptop (ATIV Q), a desktop (ATIV One Style 5), and two standard laptops (ATIV Book 9 Plus and Book 9 Lite).
