Apple's iPod touch Reaches 100 Million Sales Milestone
Android Central

Apple on Thursday revealed that its iPod touch portable media player has reached sales of 100 million units since it first came to the market in late 2007. Apple unveiled a new $229 16GB iPod touch on Thursday. Dubbed by many as an "iPhone without the phone," the iPod touch accounts for more than half of all iPods sold.

What Else You Need To Know

  • Because it has the iPhone's touchscreen interface and its low cost of entry into the App store, the iPod touch has become a popular gaming device.
  • Apple's Steve Jobs has been credited for reviving the then-dying music industry by releasing the iPod in 2004.
  • iPod sales have been on the decline for years amid the popularity of the iPhone and the iPad.
  • The recently announced entry-level iPod touch shares most of the features as the fifth-generation iPod touch, however it does not include a rear iSight camera and is only available in silver.
