Refined design, improved camera, and a due update in specs

Sony Xperia XZ

from GSMArena ( )

We've been having a hard time wholeheartedly recommending a Sony flagship recently, for one reason or another. Well, we have it easier with the Xperia XZ - it's the best Sony smartphone ever. Only, we can't help but feel they can and should do even better.

A quality mid-range phone

Sony Xperia X

from Techgoondu ( )

The Xperia X is a decent mid-ranged device, pairing good quality (no washed out screen or trashy camera) components with a good finish.

The Xperia X Compact is a great phone, and if you choose to buy one, you certainly won’t be disappointed. However, without a fingerprint sensor (with the US version), or features like dust and water resistance, the $500 price tag is hard to accept, just for the convenience that its size offers. If you are looking for the best value for money, this phone isn’t the one to get, but if you just want a compact phone that doesn’t compromise a whole lot, that’s when you might find this device to be worth every penny.

The Xperia XZ has some things going for it: it has stylish looks and a clean design, it’s conveniently water-proof and features properly positioned dual front-firing speakers. However, there are just so many places where it falls short, especially compared to the strong competition: its display features bluish and not properly balanced colors, it sometimes stutters, it has a fairly scarce 20GB of user-available storage space, its camera is slow and often counter-intuitive, with images and videos that are not on the same level as the ones from iPhones and Galaxies, it lacks quick charging and in the United States it even ships without a fingerprint scanner.

Xperia XA Ultra will definitely appeal to selfie fans with its 16MP front camera accompanied by an LED flash, Exmor RS sensor, f/2.0 aperture, and even OIS. All this is a significant prerequisite for awesome selfies, even at low light. If you are still wondering whether a 6-inch model is too big, we can add that it has almost no side screen bezels, and its profile is relatively thin (8.4 mm). Undoubtedly, all these features contribute to the better grip (if we can call it so). The smartphone does not excell in terms of battery, as the component may have been bigger, but the quick charging feature and power saving modes can compesnate for this to a certain extent.

Ok, the music player is well specced, but my cheapo, entry level LG III, at half the price, which I bought the Sony to replace, runs rings round it in every other department... I gave the Sony to my partner, who uses it as a phone, which it's quite good at, and as a BBC Radio iPlayer handset, and while iPlayer seems to be one of the few apps that transfer to internal memory, it seems to store downloads on the phone memory, or both! So problems there too... Taught me to be more questioning about the internal set up of a phone, but will avoid Sony in future...

I finally decided to upgrade from my previous Xperia Arc due only to speed/storage issues. Being so happy with the previous Xperia, which I had for 3-1/2 years & took a beating, I decided to stick with this product line & got the Z3 Compact. In my first month, it fell out of my chest pocket while bending over at about 1'. The screen totally fractured & the phone is now useless. In searching Google, there are substantial reports of similar failures. This phone is far too fragile to last out your contract. This is nowhere near as robust as my previous.
