When it comes to high tech, sometimes “old school” trumps all those fancy smartphones.
The Samsung R330 is an entry-level flip that is well built, comfortable to hold and offers a familiar alpha-numeric keypad layout, with large, multi-function keys set below the standard “send”, “clear” and “end” buttons.
Closed, the R330 offers a 1.9” inch LCD display that provides lots of info in a clear manner, including a clock, battery life, signal strength and more. And old school doesn’t mean out-of-touch. With the R330 you have access to email, the ability to instant message friends and send multi-media messages. Heck, it even offers Bluetooth, so you can talk and walk with no worries.
This may all sound very prosaic to the sophisticated smartphone user, but this writer must confess that Samsung has done an excellent job making an old-school layout look and feel smooth and simple. Not everyone wants to drive a Lamborghini, especially if all you are doing is going to the local grocery mart to get bread and milk. Know what I mean? You Just Want to Make Calls.
In fact, if you are someone who just wants a reliable cell phone that has good call quality, this is a good phone. If you don’t want to hunt for the right “sequence” of buttons to hit to get to the correct “sub-menu”, this is the right phone. If you just want to touch a single button to reach a friend, this is the right phone for you. And if you enjoy having a few extra, useful applications, again, this is a phone to consider.
The R330 offers a 1.3MP camera, more than enough pixels to take a good, clear picture. And the One-Touch dial keys further enhance the simplicity and minimalism of this fine cell phone. Add in some basic, entry- level apps like a calculator and alarm clock, and you have a mini workhorse that will serve its owner well.
As this writer has been the proud owner of Samsung phones, I can personally attest to the quality build materials and ease of navigation afforded by such a device as this.
Simple, done well, is refreshing, and the Samsung R330’s familiar layout doesn’t require a learning curve or manual, and for a great many customers, that is exactly what they are looking to buy.
