The Samsung Omnia M uses one of the more recent flavors of Microsoft’s mobile phone operating system, Windows Phone version 7.5. It sports a 4-inch 480x800 Super AMOLED touchscreen display, a 5MP camera, and a 1GHz processor. So how does it compare with HTC- or Nokia-made alternatives?
The M, with its classic full-touchscreen look, manages to wow with its 10.5mm thin profile. On its sides, you’ll find several useful hardware buttons and ports for added functionality. And it can offer up to 7.5 hours of talk time on 3G. Basically, it has all the makings of a good smartphone on the outside, but unfortunately, its internals are quite disappointing.
The base model comes with only 4GB of internal storage and a higher-end model is limited to 8GB. That might have been okay had there been a microSD card slot, but there isn’t. Also, it ships with a paltry 384MB of RAM. In an age where 2GB of RAM on smartphones is becoming the norm, it’s difficult to understand why Samsung thought this was adequate. Unless you can live with these kinds of limitations on your main phone, it’s probably best to set your sights elsewhere.
