The Samsung Galaxy Ace is a good phone in this price range. The 3.5 inch screen size is attractive, the 5 mega pixels camera works well, the battery life is amazing and the features embedded are rich and abundant. But there are few options that could have make it best in this segment like, front camera, Android gingerbread version, at least 512 MB RAM, HD video resolution, etc. overall we give this phone 3.5 star rating.

Samsung's Galaxy Ace is a well-rounded budget contender with its 800 MHz processor that allows it to manage daily OS tasks with ease, up-to-date Android 2.3.3 mobile OS, snazzy 5 MP snapper and grip-friendly dimensions. The R2999 pricetag of the Samsung Galaxy Ace comes in slightly higher than that of HTC's Wildfire S (R2888), but the Ace does offer more spec bang for your buck with its faster CPU and added screen real estate.

You have to pay R1000 over and above the price of the Galaxy Gio (R1999), but the Ace runs Android Gingerbread as standard, delivers a more premium look and feel, sports a bit more touchscreen room to employ multi-touch gestures, as well as a much better camera. In our humble opinion, it is one of this year’s top entry-level smartphone entries.

The Ace's iPhone-like design is smart, it has a decent screen and camera and the operating system feels snappy. We found it for £20 per month with an unlimited data plan, and you can buy it SIM-free for just over £200, making it great value, as long as you don't plan on installing a lot of apps. However the Motorola DEFY has a larger screen and costs the same on contract, so remains our choice for a Budget Buy.

The Galaxy Ace could have easily been lost in the ever rising sea of Android smartphones. Even if it isn't a benchmark blazing superphone, it does have a lot going for it. The interface is snappy, and the phone itself is nice to hold. It may be made of plastic, but it doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart in your hands, and the overall size is just right for most peoples hands. The Ace can pull off nearly all of essential tricks that it's bigger brothers can, and do so convincingly. TouchWiz doesn't intrude on the vanilla Android feel, and the solid battery life ensures you can keep feeling that feel for a good while longer than other smartphones. If marketed in the right way, the Ace can go a long way and I can see it being a very popular phone indeed.

The Samsung Galaxy Ace isn't as spectacular as its name suggests but it is a competent budget smartphone. As ever, the Orange San Francisco makes for a compelling alternative thanks to its larger, higher resolution screen, but the Ace has a nicer design, faster processor and better camera.

The Samsung Galaxy Ace doesn’t really step out of its remit as a budget smartphone. It has many rivals in this area: the INQ Cloud Touch offers a similar range of specs but with a stronger leaning towards Facebook, then there are the likes of the HTC Wildfire S or the Orange San Francisco, which find themselves delivering similar performance and all offering good value for money.

Ultimately, if multimedia isn’t important to you, then the Samsung Galaxy Ace offers the flexibility of Android effectively and in a clear and hassle-free package. But the Galaxy Ace doesn’t really offer up anything truly distinctive outside its good looks. For some that might just be enough, but others might be drawn to slick interface highlights elsewhere.

If you want to use this phone as your media hub, you're not in for much luck with the small memory and mid-range features.

But for the price point it comes in at, The Galaxy Ace certainly does stack up against the competition - we're not sure if it can weather the forthcoming budget Android storm (and it will certainly fall against the rumoured iPhone Nano) but for an attractive device with a decent Android overlay, you won't be disappointed with the Samsung Galaxy Ace.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Ace is strong mid-range Android smartphone that offers lot of bang for the bucks. If you grabbed the Ace on a £10-£20 a month contract, you would go home a very happy camper indeed.

The Galaxy Ace is a nice little smartphone for anybody who wants to give Android a go without breaking the bank. Apart from the camera, which did better than we'd expected, it's rather limited in multimedia features. But overall, this is a fast, handy mobile that stood up to the rigours of everyday use. It's probably best-suited to people who aren't absolutely addicted to their mobile, though.

Thanks to its sleek, squarish looks, the Samsung Galaxy Ace feels better than its low cost suggests. Except for its lower-resolution screen, it could easily pass for the latest top of the line smart phone, and it has many of the same features. On the surface, it looks much like an iPhone 4, but underneath it has plenty of Android treats to rescue it from the realms of the also-rans.

This phone worked well for the first few weeks.... then the quality started to somewhat diminish.

Problems:
-randomly turned off and on 1-5 times a day
-dropped calls constantly
-had a very very hard time sending any sort of sms, picture message, etc.
-glitchy

For this price you can get other phones that may not carry fancy settings or features but will be stable and at least keep their promises. Sorry to say this hurt my love for Samsung and have switched to and HTC phone.

If you are comfortable with a smartphone, however do not want to spend up to $700 on something that you sparsely or use only for a very limited amount of things, I would recommend this phone. For example: if you think you'll like a goof with a flip phone but don't want anything fancy or expensive.

I had an LG Optimus One and the biggest problem was the back button failing probably due to having it in my pocket doing construction for a year. Everything else worked great.

Got the Galaxy Ace and it's definitely a downgrade from the Optimus One. USB connection doesn't work very well, the screen brightness lowers when the battery is low and you need to reset it every time you use the phone (try doing that in the sun), speaker volume will not go to max in phone calls, possibly because battery is low, and last but not least, the battery doesn't last very long even when I followed instructions on charging properly the first time. Power button is on the top right side so holding the phone up I constantly accidentally touch the power button turning the screen, or the whole phone, OFF.

I've had the phone 5 days and constantly find annoying quirks with this thing. I will be returning it before my grace period is over, for a new LG Optimus One even thought the screen is smaller. I tried the HTC One V the week before I had this one, and it was just as quirky and annoying, ie. turning itself off and back on every 30 seconds for about 20 hours.

I have used this phone for 4 months. I have to admit I am a cheap Consumer and this phone fit into my budget. The speed of the phone may vary due to carriers. I bought it from Koodo and tried to update a custom firmware to correct the lag issues and "Force Closings". Basically I messed up my phone for a 6 weeks. finally after installing 20 different firmwares I had to settle with a TELUS firmware. With the TELUS firmware the runs perfect and runs fast. I also had to unlock the phone. Which was quite easy and free. Ido have to charge the phone once a day though. I am very happy with this phone now. Mind you it will not compare to an Iphone 3 But honestly I only need to make a few phone calls and twitter and texting.
