Very small keys, not practical for typing in numbers

from Digital Versus ( )

Packing a pro handset with consumer functions isn't enough to make a successful mobile. The original model wasn't intended for this kind of use and it shows. With no 3G and a small, low-def screen, the Nokia C3 just isn't cut out for surfing the web or social networking.

Moreover, Nokia has cleverly designed the C3 to look and feel like a device from the business-friendly Eseries, altering the interface of the Series 40 platform. If only it had managed to cram a bit better optics for the camera, we'd go so far as to say Nokia will sell a boatload of the C3. What will be the profit margin on this handset, is a totally different story.

We are hard pressed to find anything in the Nokia C3's price range as an alternative. For a Benjamin more you enter a whole category of QWERTY smartphones – the Nokia Eseries, Blackberrys, Samsung QWERTY phones, etc. They have mobile OS's, better cameras and 3G connectivity. But that's a Benjamin more. Maybe the Samsung CorbyTXT B3210 (aka Samsung Genio QWERTY) will do the trick with its even lower price, if you can live sans the Wi-Fi, otherwise the price is very right on the Nokia C3 to be your basic messaging phone that you can use for social networking deeds as well.

Excellent battery, high quality music sound and an excellent 2.4-inches display

The Nokia C3 offers a great keyboard and a decent range of social-networking apps

from CNET ( )

The Nokia C3 certainly has its strengths. Its keyboard is excellent, it has a good range of social-networking features and its battery life isn't bad. But it's let down by its dated operating system and lack of 3G support.

Trying this C3 from Best Buy as my first qwerty phone for easier texting. At first glance it's a sexy phone with the shiny front face and matte back plate, feels like a quality peice in your hand. The keyboard is nice too, solid feeling buttons. Nicer than most plastic phones I've been trying out. Now this is the first quasi-smart phone I've owned, and I'm only slightly familiar with other smartphones' operating systems and interfaces, so I'm having a bit of grief adapting to this Nokia. But This is coming from the Ericsson w200 and Motorola Razr remember! The C3's menu's seems a little tedious, but I'm sure I'd get used to it. The square navigation button that surrounds the main select button is a bit tricky to use with bigger hands on a guy like me, but all 4 sides of teh square button can be customized to do alot of possible options, so I can't fault it too much. The only thing that worries me about this phone is damaging the keypad from hitting it against something accidentally, and the paint wearing off the keys too early. (I think I saw an E71 Nokia do that). So to rate this phone, I'm giving the design high marks for how it compares to other fixed keypad phones. Performance so far is great, the battery is still showing 3 bars after charging it last friday and it is now Tuesday, mind you I haven't used wifi or video. Features will be a bit lower simply because the menu structure is tricky to understand at first, and there's really only so much you can do with a phone like this (basic apps, OVI browser?). But I'm sure Nokia fans would 'get it' sooner than me. Bottom line: I'm still undecided to keep it, but it's a tough call to send it back.
