The Droid 3 has three things going for it: the top-notch keyboard, the latest Gingerbread Android operating system, and it can easily be used outside the United States.

The well-thought-out keyboard with its offset keys, dedicated number row, and useful arrow keys is a wonderful addition to the Droid lineup. It surpasses any previous Motorola keyboards that we’ve seen. Add to that a good on-screen keyboard, the text-entry features of this newest operating system, and the Android voice recognition, and you have a phone which excels at accepting text data.

Although the Droid 3 is neither the thinnest nor the lightest smartphone available, it is fast, has excellent battery life, and performs most functions well enough to please the average user. Its biggest drawback is the lack of 4G LTE support. Even if you live in an area where 4G is not yet available, it may become available during your two-year contract for the phone. This makes it a little difficult to recommend a 3G phone at this time, especially a Verizon phone. However, if you do a lot of text entry and/or travel overseas, the Droid 3 may be perfect for you.

The final device in the Superphone quattro, the XT860 had the quietest release and the least fanfare. We have yet to see a single advertisement for a device that has nestled itself into our hearts over the past few weeks as one of the best QWERTY sliders ever released. What it lacks in finesse it makes up for in brute strength, and with fantastic build quality, aesthetics and an overhauled Android experience it’s THE choice for the business-minded looking to move away from the BlackBerry. And this is exactly who Moto is appealing to with its extensive enterprise, VPN and Exchange support.

But in its latest incarnation, the Droid 3, Motorola’s marquee smartphone really shines. The handset, which runs Android Gingerbread, is equally suited for work or play, with a larger screen, an even better keyboard and enough brawn to give you a satisfying experience across a variety of apps and games, including those using Flash. It only runs on Verizon’s 3G network — no 4G LTE for this guy — but can manage most streaming services.

With the power of a Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 dual-core processor under the hood and some undeniably well made Motorola slider chassis holding the device together, there’s essentially no drawback here. Sure, it’s not the Droid Bionic, which will be a Motorola device with a dual-core processor AND 4G LTE, but it’s certainly the next best thing. Motorola makes extremely high quality bits of hardware, and this is no exception. Fans of the DROID line of devices made by Motorola will not be disappointed, those upgrading from a feature phone will freak out over how amazing this device is, those moving away from a device with the same size screen with a lower resolution will be joyous over their decision.

The Motorola DROID 3 was rushed and I’m betting pushed to the side in favor of the upcoming Motorola DROID Bionic. There is no other explanation. The fact that Motorola and Verizon could release the third major iteration of the original Motorola DROID and have most of the handset’s usability features not live up to the first is disappointing, especially because the phone is more than competitive in terms of raw specs.

Motorola pretty much missed the boat with the DROID 3. While it adds necessary features like a dual-core CPU, global roaming, and a qHD display, the sum of these parts surely doesn’t equal an enjoyable product in every day usage, even if they do on paper. Phone calling is borderline atrocious. The device is just too big and heavy, doesn’t feature a solid UI, and isn’t unique enough to offer a compelling reason to buy one over another Android handset on Verizon, especially not with the Motorola DROID Bionic on the way. Unfortunately, this likely isn’t the DROID you’re looking for.

The Droid 3 isn’t only the best handset in the original Droid series—it’s also the true enterprise phone. Alongside its paramount business apps and communication widgets, features such as international roaming and enhanced mobile security make the device a must own for corporate types. Most importantly, Motorola has redeemed itself as the kings of mobile hardware by creating one of the freshest and most durable physical keyboards on the market, relieving us of our nightmares with the Droid 2 QWERTY. But it’s the lack of 4G support and Moto’s unpolished software that rank the Droid 3 below the Thunderbolt and Droid Charge as the network’s best Android phone. And when you think about, still, that’s some pretty good company.

The Motorola Droid 3 is mostly good, but has a few glaring problems that bug me.

The hardware, while huge and chunky, works well and offers the best QWERTY on a Motorola phone that I can remember. Lovers of the physical keyboard will surely enjoy that of the Droid 3. Signal and battery performance were great, but sound quality of calls was a real problem in my book. If you spend a lot of time on the phone, you might want to look elsewhere. If you don't often make use of the gift of gab, then perhaps this fault can be overlooked.

The software tools on board the Droid 3 are as good as other smartphones. It handles messaging with ease, and offers a few unique tools when it comes to social networking, such as the universal inbox.

Media playback is good and the Droid 3 offers plenty of options for the media savvy user. The camera software and gallery in particular are very good. It’s a shame the results of the camera and video camera were so average.

The Droid 3 is a satisfying sequel in the way that Toy Story 3 was. It's not as unique as the first, not as polished as the second, but still an overall good device.

Summing up, the Motorola Droid 3 does it all in a sleek package and for an affordable price. It’s especially useful for travelers and road warriors. It has advantages over other smartphones and has enough capabilities to keep up with technology for a while.

The Droid 3 is a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, if you want a keyboard on an Android device, this is a solid choice. On the other hand, if you are looking for the best overall experience, there are other Android devices in Verizon’s lineup that will fit your needs and that have 4G too. The Droid 3 is not a bad choice of a device  and it will generally appease the end user. Once Motorola finds a fix for the wonky camera, it will be that much better. At the same time, a lack of 4G leaves room to be desired.

I've always been a fan of the Motorola DROID and its successor devices. The original DROID was the very first Android smartphone on Verizon, and even though its keyboard was questionable, it remained one of the best devices available for quite some time. The DROID 2, however, didn't get enough of an upgrade to make it stand out from the sea of other Android smartphones on Verizon.

The new Motorola DROID 3 suffers no such fate. It's got an all-new qHD resolution 4-inch touchscreen, world roaming capabilities, and a beautifully designed 5-row QWERTY keyboard. It's an office in your pocket (that weighs almost as much as some office furniture, I might add). Motorola has loaded it up with goodies like Citrix and MOTOPRINT for business users, and a dual-core processor that most everybody can appreciate.

the phone freezes bad resption. and the screen well lets see if they can fix it. motorola made good phones loved my other ones and was proud to purhace this one. it has been a total nightmare. and bell the company im through wont do shit
