The Motorola Atrix HD is a fantastic mid-range device. Some features and performance aspects even push it in the high-end category. But this is a mid-level device to be truthful That’s not a bad thing at all. The camera and battery life need some work but just about everything else is quite nice for the price.

On paper, the Motorola Atrix HD has everything necessary to land it in the highest tier in the smartphone market. But the overall package falls short in contrast with the competition. The display is gorgeous and as crisp as you can ask for, the processor is the same one found in the Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X on AT&T and the software is as close to stock Android as you can get without buying a Nexus. However, the camera isn't nearly in the same class as ImageSense on the One X, the fine shooter on the S III or the iPhone 5. Battery life is a sore point, too, as is the design and finish of the phone.

The ATRIX HD LTE is one of my favourite Android devices of the moment, and speaks to how Motorola has been constantly listening to its customers. Not only has the company opened a bootloader unlock service for developers and custom ROM creators, but they have pared back many of the MOTOBLUR software quirks that irked Motorola loyalists since the original Milestone.

This particular phone is neither complicated nor prophetic. It sits comfortably in the realm of “near-the-top” Android devices with a three-year term price far below that of most of its competitors. Indeed, I prefer Motorola’s no-frills software to Samsung’s overwrought and garish TouchWIZ on the Galaxy S III. And while the latter’s software may have the edge in terms of design, battery life and camera quality, the Atrix has a denser, sharper screen, virtual navigation buttons and a competitive price. It achieves so much because it doesn’t come off as trying too hard.

Powerful internals, gorgeous screen, solidly built body, and a stock Android experience with just the right amount of modification -that's the Motorola Atrix HD in a nutshell. Motorola has addressed the issues of the smartphone's predecessors, thus creating one of the most complete Android packages currently on the US market.

There's really quite a lot to love about the Motorola Atrix HD and very few things to frown at. Naturally, we really wish the handset offered a larger battery - its 1780mAh unit is unable to match the endurance of the other high-end offerings out there. The fact that it's not user replaceable makes matters worse as you can't carry a spare one when needed.

The screen is also a bit smaller than those of some of its rivals and the difference grows even more when you consider that a part of it is reserved for the virtual buttons. Finally, both of Motorola's direct rivals - HTC and Samsung have better records when it comes to updating their smartphones. The Atrix HD can match them now when the game is ICS, but it's unclear if it will join them in the JB camp quickly enough.

The Atrix HD is a really solid effort by Motorola and we doubt anyone will end up regretting the purchase of this smartphone. It offers you flagship user experience and an answer to the fierce competition in its lower price tag. This is one of the easiest smartphones to recommend and we really hope Moto takes good care of it, by supplying it its due Jelly Bean serving in a timely manner.

The Atrix HD is definitely a good deal for the money if you’re on AT&T. It does very well as a phone in clarity and reception (at least where AT&T is concerned), and really that’s what a phone is for. Beyond that, it hits the spot in build-quality, with only a few real nitpicks. The same goes for the software, most of which can be corrected with third-party downloads. Battery life is also questionable, but for those that don’t stay on their phones all day like I do, this may not be a concern. The only area that the Atrix HD really fails is the camera, and because of this there’s a decent segment of people (those that use their camera as their primary point-and-shoot) that I just couldn’t recommend this for. If this is something that Motorola can fix with a firmware update and end up doing so, I would definitely recommend this phone.

The Atrix HD is a solid mid-range phone. At $99, it’s priced right, however, with the HTC One X now selling for that same $99, it would be hard for me to recommend this to anyone on AT&T. The One X remains one of the top 5 Android phones on the planet, while the Atrix HD was never going to hit that status. Again, it’s a fairly polished phone, but there are others at this price point that can beat it.

The Atrix HD serves as a great (and much needed) upgrade to the series. Qualcomm's dual-core makes light work of multitasking, and the addition of Smart Actions helps the CPU breathe easy and conserve energy. Data speeds and call quality are impressive, and the HD display is one of the most vibrant we've come across. The Kevlar coating is a nice touch. However, Motorola seems stuck in its old ways, focusing more on powerful hardware than fixing its consistent shortcomings such as the camera software. All in all, the Atrix HD is a deal-breaker for mobilephiles seeking a premium Android phone on a budget.

Though it can’t compete with HTC One X or Samsung Galaxy S III or a feature-by-feature basis, the gap between AT&T’s top phones and the Atrix HD is small one. Quite small, actually. What the Atrix lacks in camera quality, it makes up in decent speed and respectable battery life. It’s LTE capable phone running an enjoyable version of Android 4.0 on a good-looking screen. And at a retail price of $99, half as much as that charged for the other phones, the quality per dollar score is very respectable on the Atrix HD.

AT&T has an excellent LTE network, at least in New York City. (You'll have to check with AT&T to see if LTE is available in your area.) In fact, LTE is usually just as fast or faster than your typical cable or DSL modem. I also enjoyed the Atrix's new screen. It's crisper and brighter than any other Motorola phone I've used.

It's ugly. It's fat. Motorola's extra features like Smart Actions, which let you customize settings based on your location, are difficult to set up and are pretty unnecessary for most people. And AT&T bogged the phone down with a ton of useless apps like Yellow Pages and AT&T Navigator.

I stand in the realization that I really like the Atrix HD. It feels good in the hand, the design is nice, and Motorola is doing the best they can at staying out of Google’s way with Android 4.0. For what has been two long years of seeing Motorola release one painfully lacking device after another, I find myself looking at this phone with a newly found respect for this company.

Aside from the lack of NFC, I think this device is a great addition to the AT&T LTE lineup, and at $99 on a new contract I see no reason why this phone shouldn’t fly off the shelves. For an extra $50, I think every atrix HD owner should get the HDMI dock, even if they only ever use it as an alarm clock.

I've owned this phone for 2 weeks now and I'm very disappointed in the power performance. Without Wi-Fi, GPS even running I cant get more than 12hrs out of this phone. What am I doing in those 12 hrs you ask? Maybe 1hr talktime, 1hr of viewing facebook, linkedin and other social media pages and maybe an hour of playing with apps. I doubt I could watch a movie on this without having to plug in. Other than the battery I love everything else about it. If Motorola would upgrade the battery on this I'd keep it but until then I'm switching to the S3
