When the original LG Rumor hit the market back in 2007, it was well received as a spacious and easy-to-use messaging phone. The design and build materials caught a lot of press, and appropriately so, as it was a solid slider geared toward a youthful market focused on text and messaging.
That said, the LG Rumor 2 disappoints in its sheer lack of overall improvements. Yes, it now offers some access to Outlook and Lotus notes, but hey, it’s 2010 and consumers want to see something new, cool and useful.
In lieu of innovation and overhaul, the LG Rumor 2 offers everything that made it great… three years ago. They have added an improved display (240 x 320 pixel resolution), and some small customization tweaks, but overall, this phone is much like it’s ground-breaking predecessor, only it’s a few years later.
For those who aren’t familiar with the LG Rumor 2, it is an attractive phone with a candybar look until you discover the spacious slide-out full QWERTY keypad, which allows for easy and fun texting in any context.
Closed, the Rumor 2 can perform numerous functions quickly, aided by its alpha-numeric keypad, familiar navigation array and 2 inch display. The Rumor 2 also comes with a 1.3MP camera, which is no longer grabbing any headlines, frankly, but does offer digital zoom, night mode and other meaningful camera features.
The Rumor 2 has GPS, Bluetooth 2.1 expandable microSD memory, a 2.5mm headphone jack and a robust suite of entry level features that can be useful (Alarm, calendar, to-do list, etc.).
With an impressive talk time of 5.5 hours and 168 hours of standby time, the LG Rumor is not a phone to pass over by any means. We just wish they had made more dramatic changes rather than a quick refresh.
