5/10
Informr score
The Kyocera DuraXT currently has an Informr score of 5 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 8 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

The clamshell phone form factor is normally associated with fashion-centric and stylistic handsets. But the Kyocera DuraXT, which comes in the said design, is no such thing. In fact, it’s one of the toughest little PTT-enabled clamshell handsets to ever become available through Sprint. And it’s bordering on ridiculously cheap, too.

With the DuraXT, you’ll get a military grade flip phone that works with dual-band CDMA networks and supports EV-DO Rev. A data. Its main features include a 2-inch QVGA display, a 3MP camera, expandable memory, and a whopping 8-hour battery life. It’s like a really well-performing basic phone on steroids.

What makes the DuraXT exceptional is the fact that you can take it pretty much anywhere you go thanks to its rugged and ultra-durable design. As mentioned earlier, it’s one of the toughest models available from Verizon. It’s an easy pick for those who want a phone that truly lasts.

Need to Know: Kyocera DuraXT

1. Military grade design and rugged features. (The Good)

2. Built-in Push-To-Talk feature. (The Good)

3. Small low resolution screen. (The Bad)

4. Unimpressive camera performance. (The Bad)

Because U.S. Cellular's town ain't big enough for two tough phones, the DuraPro has replaced the Motorola Quantico as the only rugged handset in the carrier's lineup. And honestly, I'd say it was a successful usurpation. True, the DuraPro already has an inherent advantage since the Quantico came out...

The Kyocera DuraXT services its intended purpose: to provide reliable voice communications in a rugged form factor. It's brutish in design and highly functional in form. Any other phone would have cried from the abuse I rained upon the DuraXT. It's a tough little mother. The DuraXT excels at voice c...

Though I'm no construction worker, I still dig the Kyocera DuraXT. I like how it offers more features for daily use than the DuraPlus. With the DuraXT, Kyocera traded in the Plus' useful flashlight for a low-grade but decent camera. Users also get a microSD card slot and the device's clamshell desig...

Call quality is still top-notch and as for the DuraXT's physical durability, well, I'd expect nothing less from Kyocera.
