Unless you want something that's a great paperweight and can double as a weapon when walking through dark alleys, I cannot recommend strongly enough that buyers look elsewhere in T-Mobile's portfolio. Build quality aside, the MyTouch Q is an absolute disaster.

The myTouch Q is a fine little phones. It doesn't aim to beat the leaders of the smartphone pack, and are instead gunning to place well in their bracket. It does.

The hardware is conservative and shies away from being flashy. That simply means this phone won't stand out in a crowd. I like the hardware, though I wish the keyboard on the Q was a bit better. Basic features, such as the screen, battery, signal performance and sound quality, were very good, with the exception of the speakerphone.

Every feature I tested on the myTouch Q worked as it should without problems. Some of the software is a bit finicky and has odd limitations, but overall the phone gets the job done.

Taken as a whole, Huawei did a commendable job with the myTouch Q. Perhaps the biggest detractor is the fact that this phone won't be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Sure, that may not matter to first-time smartphone buyers, but for some it could be enough reason to pick another device.

Alright, Huawei has been commissioned to manufacture the latest myTouch devices for T-Mobile, and just like last time with LG’s offering, they’re also supplying a QWERTY one to complement the all-touch option. However, instead of being some sort of modest or super spec’d smartphone, this version of the myTouch Q is more laid back with its entry-level capacity.
