Go to Contacts. Under the icon for Favorites you will find the icon for Groups (icon with two heads). There are already existing groups like Family, Friends. Co-workers but you can still add more. Tap on the group name and start adding contacts.

To send a group message, go the your messaging app, compose message and tap on recipients. Tap Groups then select the group you want to send your message to.
